Security Issues in the Andrew File System

Author(s): Patrick Zehnder

Supervisor(s): Pascal Junod

Date: Summer Semester 2002-2003

Abstract: An alternative to a NIS/NFS (Network Information System/Network File System) system (which allows to manage a database of users and accounts in a UNIX environment) is a combination of the AFS (Andrew File System), Kerberos and LDAP. One of the main advantages is an increased security level. The goal of this project was to propose an alternative to NIS/NFS, to install and to configure the proposed solution, to study the security issues of the installed system, to identify potential security problems, and finally to write a detailed report.
