Cracking ZIP

Abstract: PKZIP is a standard tool to compress files and to obtain a unique archive, generally with the extension .zip. Each PKZIP implementation also gives a solution to secure this archive. P. Kocher & E. Biham showed that this encryption option should not be used to protect valuable content. They designed an efficient way to attack the algorithm. Our work was to understand and to implement this technique. The attack needs 13 plaintext bytes. The cipher is byte stream oriented and uses a symetric key. In this project, we inversed the cipher. The implementation was made in C.
